Traditionally, kāhili were symbols of aliʻi (Hawaiian chiefs). Today, hand-held kāhili are given as gifts or awards, or sometimes used as decorative furnishings. In this three-hour workshop, learn to make a kāhili paʻa lima (hand-held kāhili) about a foot tall, made in the traditional style but with goose or rooster feathers. No prior featherwork experience is necessary. Museum admission and workshop material are included with workshop registration.

The Bishop Museum Living Culture series and workshops are supported by Hawaiʻi Tourism through the Kūkulu Ola Program.
